Aikido, “The Spiritual Way of Harmony with The Universe”, is a noncompetitive art that focuses on self-development through physical and mental training.

Beginning with the basics of footwork and the body movement, students advance to an understanding of the dynamics of staying safe while maintaining harmony and an awareness of the environment.

As people with varying personalities and lifestyles come together for practice, they gain experience in reconciling their different points of view in a non-offensive way. Many business leaders have trained in Aikido to develop its non-confrontational philosophy in business practice. Aikido training strives for personal growth through self-discovery, learning one’s true nature and potential and utilizing this knowledge in daily life. The proper breathing and relaxation techniques relieve stress and increase the health of the practitioners and benefit them in every area of life. Commitment to regular practice (twice a week at least) is a must for personal development and self-protection of the practitioner.

Many benefits of Aikido include:

  • Fitness and Overall Health: Aikido training improves flexibility, strength, coordination and endurance of an individual.
  • Stress Reduction: In addition to the stress reducing benefits of any physical activity, Aikido also improves concentration and awareness of mental attitudes that can cause stress.
  • Self-Confidence: While all physical activities improve feelings of well-being, Aikido places special emphasis on building character, and focuses on increasing self-confidence, awareness and perseverance through repetitive physical and mental exercises.
  • Self-Defense: Aikido focuses on actual defense skills rather than sport oriented techniques that are found to be impractical and inefficient in actual combative situations.

Ai = Harmony            Ki = Spirit            Do = Way
